Introduction

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL, Fermilab) designs and constructs superconducting particle accelerators. This specification addresses Titanium-Niobium alloy for superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) cavities, which are a key component of particle accelerators.
Components are fabricated from stock by machining or other metal-forming processes. Components are joined by electron-beam welding or TIG welding. Cavities are operated in a cryogenic vacuum environment, requiring pressure certifications and material traceability. All of these factors motivate the content of this specification.

Reference Documents

The requirements in this specification are originated or modified from ASTM B884-11 (reapproved 2019) and ASTM B265. This specification refers to ASTM Testing methods. However, industry or manufacturer’s standards are allowed as long as those standards are identified and approved by Fermilab.
