The brand name is essential to the Government's requirement and is required to integrate and maintain standardization of the 96 SK's existing systems.
Pointwise utilizes a proprietary automation and scripting language called Glyph (based on Tcl). AFSEO relies extensively on Glyph scripts to automate the highly repetitive process of generating viscous, highresolution boundary layer meshes for thousands of aircraft and weapon. AFSEO’s Computational Aeromechanics division has deeply integrated Pointwise into its automated workflow pipelines running on DoD High Performance Computing (HPC) systems. Pointwise grids interface directly with specialized DoD CFD solvers (like Kestrel/CREATE-AV and Beggar) used for 6DOF store separation modeling. Transitioning to a non-brand mesher would sever the data compatibility between grid generation and the flow solvers.
The AFSEO mission requires rapid turnaround for flight clearances in support of combatant commanders. Retraining CFD engineers on a new, non-Pointwise meshing topology and rebuilding the automated pipelines would result in an estimated

Maintaining Pointwise is critical to flight safety. CFD predictions generated via Pointwise meshes are a primary component in establishing safe separation characteristics before conducting live-fire or drop tests. Altering the software baseline introduces unacceptable risk into the validation process.
