Updated

Every federal prevailing wage in force today: 3,055 Davis-Bacon wage determinations for construction and 1,521 Service Contract Act wage determinations for services, 436,485 rates in all, by state and county.

Davis-Bacon or Service Contract Act?

Davis-Bacon wage rates apply to federal and federally funded construction: building, heavy, highway and residential work. Each general decision lists the base rate and fringe benefits for every classification, from electrician to laborer, in a group of counties. Service Contract Act wage determinations apply to federal service contracts: janitorial, security, food service, maintenance, clerical and more. Each lists the hourly wage for hundreds of occupations in an area, plus health and welfare, vacation and holidays.

Questions

What is a wage determination?

The list of minimum wages and fringe benefits the Department of Labor sets for workers on federal contracts in an area. Davis-Bacon wage determinations (general decisions) cover construction; Service Contract Act wage determinations cover services such as janitorial, security and maintenance.

What is the prevailing wage?

The wage and fringe benefits paid to most workers in a trade in an area, as set by the Department of Labor. Federal construction contracts over $2,000 must pay at least the Davis-Bacon prevailing wage; service contracts over $2,500 must pay at least the Service Contract Act wage.

How often do wage determinations change?

Davis-Bacon general decisions are modified during the year when rates change; SCA wage determinations get new revisions, often yearly. This page is read from the official register every week.

Where do I find the wage determination for a bid?

In the solicitation. On Federal Bid Alerts, each bid page lists the bid documents, where the wage determination is attached.
