Introduction:
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI). National Aeronautics and Space Administration – Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA-GSFC) is soliciting information to survey vendor interest and capabilities to help with acquisition decisions in preparation and support of the development of an acquisition strategy and for a potential, future release of a Request For Proposal (RFP) to conduct a formulation risk reduction study and ultimately procure, develop and fabricate an instrument for the Space Weather GEO Series (SW GEO) on behalf of the NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This RFI is for one GRUVI Instrument. This instrument is anticipated to fly on a SW designated Spacecraft (SC).
Note: This RFI is for informational purposes only; it is not a request for proposals or a solicitation for a contract or grant award and it does not obligate the Government in any way. The Government will not reimburse respondents for any costs associated with responding to this request.
Background
The Space Weather Observations (SWO) programs division supports the United States National Space Weather Strategy by implementing and sustaining operational observation platforms, capabilities, and supporting observations to increase capabilities of data-driven Space Weather models. The program supports the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) goal of reducing the impact of severe space weather events, and it directly responds to the 2020 Promoting Research and Observations of Space Weather to Improve the Forecasting of Tomorrow (PROSWIFT) Act that directs NOAA and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to enter into agreements for the purpose of developing space weather spacecraft and instruments. In support of this outcome the Space Weather Next (SW Next) program, within the SWO programs division, furthers the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) strategic principles of Commitment through continuity of products and service; Community through combining internal strengths with contributions, collaborations, and partnerships; and Capabilities through leverage of observing system integrated architecture and use-inspired science. The SW Next program will provide essential remote and in-situ space-based space weather
