Questions and Answers

Q1 - Hydrant details: could you share the make and model of the existing hydrant (or any required make), the main valve size, nozzle configuration and thread type, and the depth of bury?

A1 - We do not have that information. Vendors are encouraged to visit the site for evaluation.

Q2 – When is the site visit?

A2 – There is no official site visit. Vendors are encouraged to visit the site on their own for evaluation (see attached Map.)

Q3 - Water main and valve: what is the size and material of the main and lead at this location, and is the auxiliary valve to be replaced as well as the hydrant?

A3 - The valve will need to be replaced as stated in the SOW. Additional information is unavailable.

Q4 - Water shut-off: who operates the water system serving the hydrant, and will the Government or the utility handle isolating the line during the work?

A4 – Although the system is provided by the city, Midewin has a shut off valve and will turn off the water during replacement.

Q5 - Location: could you confirm where the hydrant is within Midewin (for example, the building or road it serves)?

A5 - The hydrant is located at the Supervisor’s Office. It is just outside the machine shed and near a travel path (see attached Map.)

Q6 - Is this spot anywhere near the old Army areas where we'd need to worry about ordnance or contamination when we dig?

A6 - This is at our admin site and NOT in a contaminated or restricted soil zone.

Q7 - With the work window running into late December, will there be any flexibility if the ground is frozen? For example, could the final grading and seeding wait until spring?

A7 – Yes, we could be flexible depending on conditions.

Q8 - Will you need any testing after it's installed (pressure, disinfection, flow test)?

A8 – Yes, the following testing will be required:

1. Visual Inspection

Verify:
Correct hydrant model installed.
Hydrant plumb and oriented correctly (pumper nozzle facing access route). Breakaway flange properly assembled.
Nozzle caps installed and lubricated.
Operating nut turns smoothly.
Grade and drainage around hydrant are acceptable.
Hydrant is painted and identified per local standards.

2. Hydrostatic/Leak Inspection

With the hydrant closed:
Slowly charge the hydrant from the main.
Inspect for leaks at:
Base flange
Bury section joints
Nozzle joints
Bonnet
Operating stem area
No visible leakage should occur.

3. Full Operational Test

Open the hydrant fully and verify:
Hydrant opens completely.
