TO: ALL INTERESTED PARTIES:

SUBJECT: QUESTIONS/CLARIFICATIONS - REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) NO. 10826-RD - [MID ENERGY ELECTRON BEAM (EBEAM) SYSTEMS APPLICATION TO RECEIVE EBEAM IRRADIATOR DONATION FOR DEVICE

STERILIZATION]

To ensure impartiality and maintain a level playing field for all participants, any question or request for clarification submitted by one participant, along with PNNL’s response, will be shared with all identified participants.
Please see below question and our response.
Question #1: Can you share insights about the type of e-beam? PNNL Response:
• 2 MeV, 2-10 kW, self-shielded,
• The desired system will be used to irradiate low and medium- density (0.08 to 0.2 g/cm3) products in their primary packaging (not boxed or in shippers). Also, we can offer reference to a past RFI (partially redacted) for additional details on the targeted mid-energy electron beam (MEEB) systems, attached herein. Question #2: Can you identify project risks for integration of eBeam into sterilization line, project ownership, and external project partners, and identify any specific equipment, services, or support requested from Battelle, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory?

PNNL Response:
This is the opportunity for potential eBeam host companies to communicate anticipated resources needed to facilitate receipt and use of a mid-energy eBeam for sterilization into their manufacturing process.
Installation and implementation of a new eBeam may require infrastructural preparation, process validation, training, permitting, or other items in addition to the eBeam accelerator itself. The RFI is an opportunity for DOE to obtain information regarding these situational needs from potential hosts. DOE provision of equipment, services, and support in addition to an eBeam as part of the anticipated procurement is yet to be determined. Thank you,
Note: Revised RFI due date set at: Wednesday, November 18, 2026 (4:00 PM PDT) Sincerely,

Randy Dykes,
Sr. Contracts Specialist
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)
