General Description of the Project:
Historic Foundation & Water Management: The Davis Building (built early 1900s) features significant basement moisture intrusion, deteriorated underground storm drainage, and a deep central pump well shaft that must remain structurally undisturbed. Existing conditions of below-grade waterproofing and vapor barriers are unknown. Work is anticipated to include repairing existing underground stormwater piping. The Government is contemplating a basement-level addition requiring excavation immediately adjacent to the existing foundation and central shaft.
Please identify the primary risks associated with excavating adjacent to this historic structure and explain how your firm would protect the integrity of the building and the central shaft during construction if included in the design.
