Questions
1. Dimensions: Are the specified 2-inch × 12-inch dimensions nominal, with standard dressed dimensions acceptable, or must the boards measure a full 2 inches × 12 inches?
Yes, Standard dress dimensions are actable.
Dressed Size (Standard Actual)
1 ½ inches X 11 ¼ inches
2. Species and grade: What grading agency or grade stamp is acceptable for “Grade 1”? Must the stamp identify Douglas fir specifically, or is Douglas Fir–Larch acceptable?
Any grade stamp from an independent inspection agency or grading association certified by the American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC) Board of Review is acceptable.
Douglas Fir–Larch (marked as "DF-L" or "D. Fir-L") is fully acceptable, unless the structural design specifically calls out pure Douglas Fir.
3. Moisture and treatment: Is there a maximum moisture content or required kilndried designation? Please confirm the required heat-treatment marking and whether supporting treatment documentation must accompany the quote or delivery. All wood must meet ALSC and IPSM standards and regulations including HT standards (a minimum of 56 degree Celsius at the core for at least 30 consecutive minutes) and debarking requirements according to the specified end user.
4. Packaging: May the boards be shrink-wrapped in bundles, or must each board be individually wrapped?
Yes, the boards may be bundled and wrapped, providing none of them are exposed to the elements during shipping to the facility.
5. Brand requirement: The RFQ states that this is a brand-name requirement, but the SOW does not identify a manufacturer. Is lumber from any producer acceptable if it meets all stated specifications?
Douglas Fir is not a brand name, it is a type of wood species.
6. Delivery: What is the required delivery date or number of days after receipt of order? Please also provide the receiving address at Kennedy Space Center, delivery hours, appointment or access requirements, and whether NASA will provide unloading equipment and personnel.
