Procurement of SCAPE Ventilator Cylinders
1.0 Background
-wide during
Self-Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) operations. SCAPE ventilators provide SCAPE suit users with breathable air during transit to and from the workstation, while in the decontamination shower, and whenever air is needed during donning and doffing. Each complete SCAPE ventilator unit consists of a 30-minute / 4500 psig cylinder attached to a regulator and pneumatic assembly.
These cylinders are certified under DOT-SP 10915, which prohibits use beyond 15 years from the date of manufacture. Inventory of SCAPE ventilator cylinders will reach end-of-service in 2027 and cannot remain in operation past the DOT-mandated retirement threshold. To maintain uninterrupted SCAPE support across all hypergolic, pad, and facility operations, these cylinders must be replaced in accordance with DOT-SP 10915 requirements.
