Attachment B – Additional Submission Instructions
9/25/2026
Additional Submission Instructions
Appropriate responses to this RFQ shall address one or more of the following: 1. Quotes for the development and validation of approach(es) to surveil, reduce risk of, and/or prevent/treat (either prophylactic or treatment countermeasures) VT during spaceflight and exploration missions, including rationale and methodology. This could include: a. Provision of a point-of-care assessment device capable of functioning in weightlessness or reduced gravity, the development of novel technologies to assess VT risk (e.g., venous flow dynamics, biomarkers) etc.
b. Countermeasures, specifically mechanical countermeasures, to prevent or treat VT during spaceflight and exploration missions.
c. Quotes for future spaceflight and/or spaceflight analog research relevant to VT during spaceflight and exploration missions. Relevant applications might include short- and long-duration missions in low-Earth orbit, missions beyond low-Earth orbit, and habitation in partial gravity environments. Ground-based research may include investigations in relevant patient populations or parabolic flight. 2. Quotes may include prospective research and/or retrospective analysis. Retrospective analysis may include:
a. Novel approaches to analyze existing astronaut imaging datasets (i.e., 2-D ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)) b. Measurement of biomarkers in stored frozen samples (i.e., blood, saliva and/or urine) 3. Schedule must be reflective of the type of quote submitted (e.g., spaceflight project, patient populations, etc.). Given the RFQ mechanism allows for varying schedule and budget submissions, budget and schedule assumptions must be included in all responses. NASA cannot guarantee manifesting on commercial providers, this should be taken into account in generating schedule and budget assumptions.
4. Provide applicable qualifications/certifications for team members and/or facility/equipment.
5. Human Exploration Research Opportunities (HERO) Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFO) Resources shall be used as necessary by proposers with the following modifications:
a. Dual-Anonymous Peer Review (DAPR);
