What this means for a small contractor

The largest contractors win most of the dollars through a small number of very large awards, but most federal notices are small: purchase orders and service contracts in the tens or hundreds of thousands. Small businesses won $157.7 billion in the same 12 months. Many of the open notices are set aside for them; see which agencies and trades set aside the most, and the contractor profiles for who wins in each agency.

How this list is made

From USAspending.gov's public award data, read Oct 19, 2026: contract obligations in the last 12 months, grouped by parent company where one is linked (so Lockheed Martin's divisions count as one company), otherwise by the company that won. Obligations are the money committed in that period, including changes to older contracts, so a company can rank high for an award made years ago. Updated every week.
