Barillas Peak Lookout Tower Restoration

Scope of Work

Base Bid (Barillas Peak Lookout Tower):
The Santa Fe National Forest is seeking to hire a contractor to design, remove and replace the Barillas Lookout Tower cab with a new cab. New cab is to be installed on the existing tower structure, fully grounded and tested, complete with a brand-new comprehensive lighting protection system. In addition, the contractor shall design and install a fully functional solarpowered system complete with a backup generator. Contractor will be responsible for providing a complete cab design, drawings, building materials, personnel, equipment, tools, supervision and other items and non-personal services necessary for the successful execution of the work required via this contract. Additionally, the transportation of said items to and from the site shall be the responsibility of the contractor.
Bid Option A (Encino Vista Lookout Tower):
The Santa Fe National Forest is additionally seeking a contractor to replace/install a brand-new comprehensive lightning protection system, and fully ground, test & inspect the Encino Vista Lookout Tower. In addition, the contractor shall design and install a fully functional solarpowered system complete with a backup generator. Contractor will be responsible for providing a complete design, drawings, building materials, personnel, equipment, tools, supervision and other items and non-personal services necessary for the successful execution of the work required via this contract. Additionally, the transportation of said items to and from the site shall be the responsibility of the contractor.

Location(s):
The Barillas Peak Lookout tower is located in the Pecos Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest.
From the Pecos Las Vegas Ranger Station, located at 32 South Main Street, Pecos, NM 87552: turn left onto S Main St., proceed for approximately 2 miles to the 4-way intersection. Turn right onto NM-223. Continue for approximately 2 miles then turn right onto NFSR 83. Continue along NFSR 83 for approximately 17 miles to NFSR 83Z near the peak of the mountain and turn right. Barillas peak is located at the end of NFSR 83Z. Please note: NFSR 83 is approximately 10.5 miles of Maintenance Level 3 (ML3, aggregate surfacing) and 6.3 miles of Maintenance Level 2 (ML2, maintained for high clearance vehicles).
