Project: Bulk Hammered Sawdust Bedding (800 tons)
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0Scope of Work: The USDA-ARS is requesting bids for a 1-year supply of bulk hammered sawdust (800 tons sawdust in 35-40 trailer loads containing 20-24 tons/load delivered approximately every 10 days) for USDA-ARS/Marshfield Agricultural Research Station. The sawdust is used for bedding in maternity/health barn and a bedded pack for young heifers. Looking for Base plus 4 option years contract.
CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS
2.0Technical Requirements/Tasks:
1. Deliver 800 tons of hammered sawdust to UW Marshfield Agricultural Research Station, 208356 Drake Ave., Stratford, WI 54484. 2. Sawdust should be delivered by walking trailer in approximate 20–24-ton loads. 3. Deliveries will begin about December 15, 2026, and continue through December 14, 2027, with possibility of an additional 3 option years 4. Exact delivery dates will be coordinated by Will Cordes (MARS Supervisor; 715-650-7429) depending on usage. The MARS station cannot accept multiple loads at once and has under-roof storage for only one load at a time. 5. Specifications for the sawdust include: i) moisture content between 10 and 15% (inclusion of wet sawdust at up to 25% of final product may be done to reduce dust); ii) particle size less than 3/8", but no more than 20% fine (< 1/8") particles; iii) bulk density > 10 lbs./cubic foot; iv) free of foreign material and debris; and v) no additives, such as corn stalks, bean stalks, oat hulls, or straw. 6. Depending on dustiness of the product delivered, the vendor is willing to modify the final product to reduce dustiness (increase particle size, addition of wet/green sawdust). 7. Quotes must include all delivery fees, surcharges, and all other costs.
3.0Delivery Schedule:
o Schedule of Deliveries: 35-40 deliveries will occur at approximately 10 day intervals beginning on about December 15, 2026, and be completed by December 14, 2027. All deliveries will be coordinated in advance by Will Cordes (MARS Supervisor; 715-650-7429) because storage capacity is limited. Because the research station is an operating dairy farm, there will be employees on site during business hours (7:00 am to 4:30 pm) daily. However, deliveries on weekends or holidays are discouraged.
o Reporting Requirements: The contractor/vendor must leave a delivery receipt with full and empty truck delivery weights at the UW Marshfield Agricultural Research Station Office (208356 Drake Ave., Stratford, WI 54484) for each load to determine actual amount delivered. The research station has a truck scale to obtain weights.
