Minimum Essential Characteristics (MECs)
UV Laser Slide Printer
The Contractor shall provide one (1) UV Laser Slide Printer meeting the following Minimum Essential Characteristics:
1. The printer table-top dimensions must not exceed: Height: 21in.; Width: 16 in.; Depth: 16 in.
2. The printer should utilize a UV laser-based engraving/printing system (no ink or thermal transfer ribbons) to ensure permanent, solvent-resistant slide identification. 3. The printer should at least be able to provide automated feeding and printing of multiple slides without continuous user intervention.
4. The printer should at least have a slide load capacity of at least 100 standard microscope slides per batch in an integrated magazine and/or hopper. 5. The printer ought to have a minimum print speed of 15 slides per minute. 6. The printer should support standard 1 in. × 3 in. (approximately 76 mm × 26 mm) microscope slides, including plain and frosted-end slides commonly used in histology and pathology laboratories.
7. The printer ought to accommodate slide thicknesses in the range of approximately 0.9 mm to 1.2 mm.
8. The printer should provide a minimum effective print/engraving resolution equivalent to at least 300 dpi for clear alphanumeric text and 1D/2D barcodes suitable for laboratory use.
9. The printer should at least support printing of common linear and 2D barcodes (e.g., Code 39, Code 128, Data Matrix) on the slide label area. 10. The printer should confine printing to the slide end/label area without encroaching into the specimen or staining area of the slide.
11. The printer should at least provide connectivity via at least one standard data interface (e.g., USB and/or Ethernet) for connection to a host computer and/or network. 12. The printer and its driver/software ought to be compatible with and capable of integration into the Pristima Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) environment for automated slide identification and tracking.
13. The data management/label design software supplied with the printer should allow creation and modification of layouts including text fields, barcodes, and identifiers to support laboratory-specific workflows.
14. The printed/engraved slide markings ought to be resistant to xylene, alcohols, and other commonly used histology reagents and processes (including routine staining and coverslipping).
15. The printer should at least operate on standard laboratory mains power (e.g., 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz) without requiring specialized electrical infrastructure.
