PPPO Critical Minerals Questions:
•
Are photographs available of the specific silver-tungsten breaker contacts listed in the Paducah inventory? If so, could DOE share them or advise how interested parties can review them?
Pictures will be placed on sam.gov.
•
For the copper windings and the aluminum in compressors and coolers, would DOE do the removal and scanning as part of its own demolition work and then offer segregated, released metal? Or would the respondent be expected to do the removal on site? And what release standard would apply to the recovered metal?
The interested party would pay the cost for surgical removal of the copper or aluminum. This could possibly be done by the DOE Contractor through a work authorization if the interested party is interested in pursuing that avenue. The material would follow DOE Order 458.1, RADIATION PROTECTION OF THE PUBLIC AND THE ENVIRONMENT for releasability.
•
If a respondent performs the removal, would the cost of that work be recognized as consideration against the value of the recovered material? Please refer to question #2 above. The material would be released to the interested party.
•
Does the Department's 2000 suspension on the release of scrap metal from radiological areas apply to these inventories? If so, would recovered metal proceed only under authorized limits?
The material would follow DOE Order 458.1, RADIATION PROTECTION OF THE PUBLIC AND THE ENVIRONMENT for releasability.
•
Could the readily available lots (platinum wire, silver machine turnings, fluorine) move on an earlier or simpler timeline than the embedded inventories? Yes. Those items readily available can immediately begin the process of being released to an interested party.
