Request for Information (RFI)/Sources Sought
No. APP00730-MB
HSR HF Dipole and Quad SC Magnet PS and Quench
To all Potential/Interested Suppliers,
Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC (herein known as “BSA”), operator of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) under a Prime Contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking expressions of interest from firms regarding the design, manufacture, inspection, testing,
documentation, and delivery of high-current power-supply systems for the Electron-Ion Collider Hadron Storage Ring as outlined in the following attachments: Attachment A- Statement of Work for the HSR Main Arc Dipole and Quadrupole Power Supplies Attachment B- Technical Specification for the HSR Main Arc Dipole and Quadrupole Power Supplies Attachment C- BNL-QA-101
Please note that this is an RFI/Sources Sought notice, not a Request for Proposal, and no solicitation exists at this time.
This RFI is for informational and planning purposes only and is not to be construed as a commitment by the U.S. Government, nor will the U.S. Government pay for information received. The information from this notice will help the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) survey available resources.
Background:
The Electron-Ion Collider Project will design, construct, and install accelerator hardware for a new electron storage ring and electron injector and will modify the existing hadron ring to support electron-ion collisions. The Hadron Storage Ring will include superconducting main arc dipole and quadrupole magnets connected in series circuits. BSA anticipates procuring two high-current power-supply systems for the hadron storage ring: • Model A for the HSR main arc dipole circuit
• Model B for the HSR main arc quadrupole circuit
The systems will provide precisely regulated, ramped current to superconducting magnet loads. Each system is expected to include the main power supply, quench-protection equipment, current measurement and regulation equipment, programmable controls, local operator interfaces, cooling-water interfaces, protective interlocks, and associated instrumentation.
The equipment must safely control high-current magnet circuits with substantial stored energy. The technical requirements include two-quadrant operation, high-accuracy current regulation, redundant quench protection, magnet-energy extraction interfaces, ground isolation, water-cooled power components, PLC-based controls, BNL control-system
