Spill Prevention and Maintenance Plan
Objectives and General Information
The purpose of this spill prevention plan is to protect the forest lands, water quality and the surrounding water shed areas during project activities. These general process and procedures will be followed by the contractor, the contractor’s employees and sub-contractors.
Storage of Hazardous Materials on Project Site
To minimize accidental spillage, HAZMAT products will be stored in original or approved, regulated, plastic or metal spill-proof containers. All products that are used on site will be stored in the shade, 100 feet or more away from any stream or drainage and in spill containment bins that are large enough to hold the entire contents of the containers that are being stored.
Less than 500 gallons total fuel will be located at the project site, this includes all types of fuel that are stored in vehicles (including the vehicle’s fuel tank), all types of equipment that uses fuel, and all storage tanks/storage containers. All portable fuel tanks shall be doubled line and stored on a thick plastic liner with earthen dam walls large enough to contain the entire amount of the fuel tank. Other materials will be stored in a neat and orderly manner, in appropriate containers with approved lids (or sealed), protected by water resistant covering, as needed, and shall be stored in spill containment bins large enough to hold all liquids in the event of a container breach. All fluids, such as oil, grease, hydraulic, break or other fluids, shall be stored in accordance with the SDS and in self-containing spill containment bins. All operators will keep a log of time, day, and location of any spill of fuel or oils that may have occurred and will report the spill immediately to COR. All materials such as oils, fuels, grease, hydraulic fluids, human waste, food, trash, etc. will not be stored on any project after the project or phase of project is completed. These substances will only be present during the project operation. All materials will be removed and disposed of in the proper facilities away from forest lands when operations and or site visits are completed. Operators will not store any materials on any projects for any reason and for any length of unsupervised time.
Preventative Maintenance and Refueling
To prevent spills during operation, contractor shall only use well‐maintained equipment to perform the work required during this project. When practicable, equipment maintenance will be performed offsite.
