Location: Initial meeting site, intersection of 3660 and 013 roads. Corral G-Z IRSC – What does it mean?
G-Z – Contractor will log Corral, which is already laid out and cruised, and will be laying out and cruising the Grizzly Project Area with first dibs on logging it.
IRSC – Good-for-services contract: contractors earn stewardship credits that offset timber costs. Stop 1 (Location: Unit 10)
Q1. Is there no size limit when it comes to white fir?
A1. No size limit with white fir if it’s in competition with <21” ponderosa pine, unless the fir over 150 yrs. There is a visual guide for determining white fir age in Appendix B as well as in Attachment 4. Q2. So basically you want to save the big ponderosa?
A2. Yes, and this is pretty standard for our timber contracts, but the difference with this prescription is that we also want the contractor to leave behind more young, black-bark pine in order to ensure healthy levels of natural regeneration.
Q3. How does big ponderosa come into play when calculating residual basal area? A3. Over 21” ponderosa is treated like a “ghost tree”, it isn’t counted in plots. Where there is >20 ft2/ac of >21” pine, Contractor will cut down to an average of 30 square feet residual BA, with a range between 20-50. Stop 2 (Location: Unit 9)
Q4. What is stewardship credit?
A4. Stewardship Credits are credits that are earned and established when work listed in the Schedule of Items has been performed and accepted. Either cash or non-monetary (product value) and shall be earned at the rate awarded for work items. For non-monetary credits, Contractor performs stewardship work (I.e., Cut, Skid and Deck – Control Features), the dollar value of which is credited towards the value of timber that they haul to the mill. Same as “Stumpage Credit.” See page 19 of the Solicitation document. Q5. Are we using a 10 BAF to check plots?
A5. Yes. See “C6.36# Acceptance of Work” page 30 of Appendix B.

Q6. What is the plant association group at this location? A6. Dry Mixed Conifer. One prescription covers all of Corral regardless of plant association BUT Grizzly has 3 potential prescriptions based on plant association group (dry pine, dry mixed conifer, moist mixed conifer).
