Sludge Dewatering During Construction
Temporary Dewatering Equipment
Currently, the SBIWTP has a screw press and auxiliary mobile conveyor that is supplementing the belt filter press process for sludge dewatering. The screw press is located at the south end of the existing Sludge Dewatering Building. Refer to the attachment, Screw Press Map and Drawings.pdf, for a location map and drawings of the temporary screw press and auxiliary mobile conveyor.
The existing Sludge Dewatering Facility, Lime Stabilization Facility, and Truck Loading Facility are planned to undergo major rehabilitation as part of Phase 1 construction, anticipated to begin during the second half of 2027. The duration of the rehabilitation work is expected to be approximately a 30-month period. Permanent sludge dewatering equipment becomes available upon final completion and commissioning of said work. Prior to the commencement of rehabilitation activities, the Construction Contractor will install a second temporary screw press and auxiliary mobile conveyor. The Construction Contractor will provide a service and maintenance agreement for the second temporary screw press throughout the rehabilitation period.
During the rehabilitation period, there will be no provisions for use of bulk polymer for sludge dewatering. The screw press units are configured to use polymer totes. When the sludge dewatering facility rehabilitation is complete, the screw press units will be removed from service and the new bulk dewatering polymer facility placed in service.
