1. SCOPE OF SERVICES – CENTRAL UTILITY BUILDING

ADDITION AND UPGRADES

1.1

Description

The Central Utility Building (CUB) subproject is one of the subprojects of the Utilities Infrastructure Project (UIP). The subcontracted Architect/Engineer (A/E) has completed the 100% Final Design (FD) of the CUB subproject. As part of the 100% FD submission, certain pieces of equipment were identified as items to be pre-purchased by Fermilab prior to the start of the construction phase.
This scope of work is to build an addition and upgrade the CUB, which is UIP subproject SP-1. The CUB supplies chilled water, hot water, low conductivity water, and makeup water to various lab buildings and systems. These systems serve both comfort cooling and heating needs, as well as process cooling and utility requirements. It’s vital to Fermilab’s mission that CUB be revitalized and expanded, ensuring the ability to serve existing and future loads. The Subproject 1 detailed construction requirements and scope of work is defined in the construction drawings and specifications.

1.2

Scope

At a high level, the scope of work for the CUB Addition and Upgrades includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Demolition of existing piping, equipment, conduit, ductwork, and others as indicated in the drawings.
Expand CUB for location of new chillers and increase in the chilled water capacity. Installation of foundation for new building addition.
Provide structure and façade for the building addition. Renovate exterior shell including the existing roof underneath cooling towers and the metal panels on the façade.
Improve heating hot water systems feeding the campus, within the footprint of the new building.
Installation of new fire protection and fire alarm systems Installation of low voltage power to the building and within the building Installation of medium voltage power to the building, including new medium voltage switches and medium voltage transformers
Civil utilities upgrade and pavement removal.

The scope of work is dictated by the drawings and specifications, which are included as an attachment to this document.
